3D Modeling on Tinkercad
3D Modeling is a fundamental form of planning that takes time to get it just right. In this model, you will learn the fundamentals of 3D Modeling on Tinkercad by building a house.
Type | Name | Description |
Resource | Laptop | Used to open a browser to Tinkercad |
Optional Resource | Mouse | For beginners a mouse would be beneficial to use but it is not required |
When you type in “Tinkercad” in your browser this screen will appear. The first option will be the cite we will use. | This will be what you see once you click. There will be a button that says “Create+” on your right side | Your Screen should look like this when ready to create. |
To get this box as you see here, look to the tab on the right to find the solid box option. Once you click, you have the freedom to place your box wherever you want on the board. | From this point on you will need to change direction. To do that you can right click on your touchpad and use your index finger to move. Another way is to use the cube on the left side of your screen. You'd just have to click on the box and move around with your cursor. (If you're lost on your screen, you can press the home button underneath the cube) | After you place the box, grab the triangle from the same place you selected the box. Once you have the triangle selected, center it on top of the box to create the house shape. |
This may look like a jump but it's fairly simple! The next shape to select is the transparent box (it looks striped) and place it near the house. Next, adjust the box to your liking of width, length and height using the small squares on the corners and edges. These transparent boxes will be our door and windows. | To get these 3 identical slabs, select an existing slab, and then copy and paste onto the grid. | The cone shaped emblem shown here allows you to freely move the slab up and down once selected. |
Now, raise 2 of the slabs up and slightly into the house to create indents. Do the same with the door on the ground floor. Once they are slightly inside of your house, you will then group all 4 shapes together by clicking your left mouse pad outside of the model and moving your cursor over the 4 shapes. Once they are all highlighted you can press ctrl+g to group. | To add text to your creation, select the “TEXT” option where you found the shapes. Once placed on the roof of your house, you will have the option to put whatever you want as your text. Reshape the text with the small boxes on the corners. You can also put a specific numbered size when you click on the boxes. If you want to change the color you can press the circle you see above the word “solid.” (This applies to every shape you see on screen.) | You're almost done with your creation. Now, add a small character. To get to this character there will be a heading on the tab to the right saying “Basic Shapes.” Click and select “Creatures & Characters.” Here, you can select anything you want! Once placed on your pad, it will look extremely large. |
Here's what I do to make it smaller without worrying if its proportionate: divide! When you select the small boxes on the corners of a placed object, you can adjust the numbers. If you want the creature/character to appear slightly smaller than your house, divide each of the object's proportions (length, width, and height) by 5. | Once you're done you will have to export your creation into an STL and you'll be ready to print | |
