Colt Doster

Howdy Folks! My name is Colt Doster and I am currently a Junior Creative Technologies Major here at Berry college (minors in Business and Economics). This semester I enrolled in CRT 320 & 360

Plasma Cut Sign

This course was designed to familiarize students with CNC machines/methods, and for this assignment we used HackBerry's CNC plasma cutter. The legs and profile were cut separately and assembled with pop rivets.

Hot Foam Wire Cutter

Robotics was a CNC based course this semester, so it was fitting that for our final project, our group built a CNC hot foam wire cutter. This machine will cut foam to specification and it very good at making basic shapes.

Mighty Mouse

Mighty Mouse was a project based in ergonomics and form rather than strictly function. We designed our own computer mouse to the specification of our hands, and each person in our class had a different mouse so go check out the others!

Campfire Stool

This course was designed to familiarize students with CNC machines/methods, and for this assignment we used the CrawlBot (CNC router). Each panel was cut on the crawlbot, then painted and assembled to create a camp stool!

PopArt PCB

The PopArt PCB was a project that taught a lot about arrays and the idea of "Pixel Mapping." It expanded my PCB design knowledge and gave me lots of practice designing PCBs (which means I messed up a few times).

MIXI

This project had the class design and solder a PCB, and build an enclosure for our own music mixer. We were also able to perform our own composed music with our MIXI boards using AudioTool.

Heavy Metal

Heavy Metal was a project that exercised and expanded students storytelling abilities. We worked with Hackberry's CNC plasma cutter to create our own "campfire" LED modules, and had to create 4 inserts to tell a unifying shadow puppet style story.

GamePad

For our final project, the GamePad, we combined lots of the lessons learned from earlier in the semester into a homemade video game. We applied lessons in aesthetics, PCB design, efficient coding, and creativity/storytelling to create our own game.

Team Aurora

Team aurora was tasked with developing an educational technology to teach children about the electromagnetic spectrum. We chose to teach about spectroscopy, and created a light filtering puzzle!

OttoBot

The OttoBot is an educational platform designed to be used for the fall 2021 CRT Vehicles course. It will be used to teach students about vehicle autonomy on a small scale, before student graduate to the OttoKart's larger scale platform.

The SaniStation

My partner (Thomas Harlin) and I had to study a problem space on campus with technology. The SaniStation tracked those entering the dining hall and how many of those people used hand sanitizer on the way in. http://www.hackberrylab.com/399/orange/home.php

New Hobbies pt. 1

For the last 3 hackathons, I decided that I wanted to experiment and try and learn to do something that I had never done so that I might find some new hobbies. For the first installment I tried my hand at leatherworking and decided to make a wallet.

HackBerry Helper

The "HackBerry Helper" was designed to improve professor and student interaction in the classroom. It tracks if a student calls for help, when they called for help, and whether or not they received help from the professor.

Henry Repeating Rifle

Our final project was to model anything we wanted to as long as it met the scope of the project. I chose this rifle because it I have a lot of good memories shooting a rifle very similar to this.

WWE Debut

As a child I always wanted to hit someone with a chair they way they did in the WWE, but I knew it'd hurt pretty bad. So, for my first hackathon I decided to make some breakaway stools that wouldn't hurt as much. You can decide if they worked.

New Hobbies pt. 2

For the last 3 hackathons, I decided that I wanted to experiment and try and learn to do something that I had never done so that I might find some new hobbies. For the 2nd installment I tried my hand at metalworking and made a knife from a railroad spike.

New Hobbies pt. 3

For the last 3 hackathons, I decided that I wanted to experiment and try and learn to do something that I had never done so that I might find some new hobbies. For the final installment I hit the lathe, and turned/cut the pieces to a checkers set.
